Safety

uniovi

When we were working in the workshop safety was a crucial factor to consider. This meant completing a risk assessment prior to any manufacturing work and discussing how best to minimise any risks involved. The main way of doing this was to make sure we were wearing appropriate protective clothing. This meant wearing a lab coat when doing virtually any work in the workshop. For any cutting or drilling jobs gloves were worn to reduce the chance of anything slipping and any of us cutting our hands. Goggles were also worn to prevent any pieces from flying into our eyes. For the spray painting all the windows were opened and masks were worn to prevent breathing in the fumes as much as possible.

It was also important for us to consider who was around us when doing a job and make sure they were wearing appropriate protective clothing if they were nearby. Working together when doing these jobs can be an excellent safety toll as well. For example, if somebody is holding a profile in place while somebody else is drilling it then there is less chance of the profile coming loose and hurting one of us.

We made it through the entire project without any injuries in the workshop.
